Smurfing is a financial tactic that entails splitting large financial donations into smaller, more difficult-to-detect contributions. These contributions are directed towards political campaigns, Political Action Committees (PACs), and other political organizations with the goal of hiding the origin of the funds and avoiding regulatory rules that limit political contributions.
By using smurfs as “money mules,” wealthy individuals significantly influence election outcomes, thereby undermining the public’s fundamental right to choose their representatives.
